Turkish holidays

Turkey has 10 important holidays where you will find most stores and offical offices/buildings closed.
However be aware that Kurban bayram and seker bayram do not fall on the same days every year since the Arabic calendar is 10-11 days shorter than the western calendar.

1. januar: New years day
23. april: Children and Independence day
19. maj: Youth and sports day. Also the day people remember Atatürk.
30. august: The day where the liberation army drew out the forces.
29. oktober: The day the Turkish republic was created.
10. november: The day in 1938 where Atatürk died. Every year on the time of his death the whole country remembers their first president. Traffic, radio and tv will stop for 1 minute.
9-10-11. september 2010: Şeker Bayramı: This is the celebration when the Ramadan finishes.
16-17-18-.19. november 2010: Kurban Bayramı: To remember Abrahams loyalti to God.
